Bordeaux came from behind to beat nine-man Bayern Munich 2-1 at home and move top of Group A in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The visitors went in front after six minutes when Bordeaux defender Michael Ciani diverted the ball into his own net after a corner.

Ciani went from villain to hero on the half-hour mark with a superb back-heel effort to level the score.

Bayern's hopes of restoring their advantage suffered a blow when Thomas Muller received his marching orders for a second bookable offense on 30 minutes.

Defender Marc Planus scored the winner for Bordeaux five minutes before the break.

The French champions could have further extended the gap in the second half but wasted two penalties.

Bayern finished with nine men following the dismissal of Belgian defender Daniel Van Buyten two minutes from time.

In the other group game, Juventus needed a Giorgio Chiellini header shortly after the restart to beat Maccabi Haifa 1-0 at home.

Bordeaux top the group with seven points from three games, two ahead of second-placed Juventus. Bayern are third on four points while Maccabi Haifa lie at the bottom with no points.
