Real Madrid have refused to release Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo for the weekend's qualifier against Bosnia as he is yet to recover from injury.

The 24-year-old is still nursing an ankle injury since last month, even so he was recalled by Portugal boss Carlos Queiroz.

However, Real have made it clear that the 2008 FIFA Player of the Year is still unfit to play.

Cristiano Ronaldo will not travel to Portugal. He will not be leaving here," a Real spokesman was quoted by Spanish daily Marca.

"On Monday we have sent all the medical test results to the Portuguese Federation, with our results and those of Doctor Niek van Diyk in Holland, that clearly state Cristiano Ronaldo is injured and cannot play."

Earlier on Monday, Real manager Manuel Pellegrini implied that Ronaldo is unlikely to be fit for the Bosnia double-header.

"I was asked about it last week. Everyone has their own interests in mind. Whatever, happens, there are medical records that need to be looked at," he said.

"He is following a specific treatment protocol. No player likes to miss playing for his national team, but the doctors should have the final say."
