"Abou-Treika felt an acute pain in his instep, and when he underwent medical examinations it turned out that he had picked up an injury," Ahli's football director Hadi Khashaba said.

Red Devils' chief medic Ihab Ali revealed that the talismanic player will need to rest for two months before starting rehab.

The report didn't mention when Abou-Treika sustained the injury.

The 31-year-old has got back in Ahli training on Friday, after returning from Sudan where Egypt lost 1-0 to Algeria in a World Cup playoff game a couple of days earlier.

Abou-Treika will most probably miss the 2010 African Cup of Nations.
