Factbox on Hossam Hassan, who has been appointed new Zamalek manager, succeeding Frenchman Henri Michel on Monday.

• Born on August 10th, 1966 and was scouted by Ahli

• Made his first team debut in the 1984-1985 season

• Became a regular starter in 1985-1986, scoring six goals in 17 games

• Was a member of the Egyptian team that won the African Cup of Nations in 1986 in Egypt

• Qualified for the World Cup 1990, scoring the decisive goal against Algeria in Cairo in 1989

• Joined Greek side PAOK in 90-91

• Moved to Swiss side Neuchatel in 91-92

• Back to Ahli from 1992 to 2000, helping the club win seven league titles, and one African trophy

• Captained Egypt to winning the African Cup of Nations 1998 in Burkina Faso, ending the tournament as joint top scorer

• Had a brief loan spell with UAE side Al-Ain in the second half of the 99-2000 season

• Made a shocking move to Ahli's archrivals Zamalek from 2000 to 2004, guiding the club to winning three league titles and one African Champions League trophy

• Sacked as Masri manager midway through the 2008-2009 season before taking over as Telecom Egypt coach
