Bayern Munich maintained their fine run in the Bundesliga with a crushing 5-1 victory over Bochum which moved them up to second on Saturday.

The Bavarians, who reached the Champions League knockout phase after thrashing Juventus 4-1 in midweek, recovered from a poor start to their season to register their third successive league win.

Towering striker Mario Gomez put them ahead midway through the first half when he nipped in ahead of his marker to convert Ivica Olic's cross.

An own goal from Mergim Mavraj doubled their lead in the 34th minute and Olic made it 3-0 four minutes after the restart with a simple tap-in.

The Croatian striker scored his second of the night on 49 minutes and Danijel Pranjic completed the rout in the 56th minute.

Bochum's consolation came through Christian Fuchs with 14 minutes remaining.

Bayern have 30 points 16 games, just two behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen who were held to a 2-2 draw by Hertha Berlin on Friday.
