Mohamed Salah was appointed as Mansoura boss on Friday night, following the departure of Mohamed Helmi a day earlier.

Veteran tactician Helmi handed in his resignation on Friday, right after the promoted outfit suffered a 2-0 defeat to Arab Contractors in the Egyptian Premier League.

Hours later, Salah met with Mansoura's board members and took charge of the team.

The former Ittihad and Masri coach seemed optimistic over his new mission, although Mansoura sank deep into the relegation zone of late.

"There is a remarkable group of players at Mansoura," he told FilGoal.com. "They only lack experience to pull off good results.

"The situation is not good, but the difference between the bottom five teams is not that big."

Mansoura are now in 15th place with 10 points, five ahead of bottom side Asyut Petroleum and two adrift of 14-placed Masri.

"Now we need our fans to keep supporting us and to be patient," Salah concluded.
