Gouna have signed former Zamalek forward Gamal Hamza, who ended an unhappy spell with German side Mainz, on a six-month deal, the Egyptian Premier League club said on Sunday.

"Hamza will be with us until the end of the season," Gouna coach Ismail Youssef told FilGoal.com.

"There is an option to extend the deal at the end of the season."

Hamza, who was consistently criticized for failing to live up to his potential due to reckless attitudes, joined Bundesliga side Mainz in the close season after his contract with Zamalek expired.

He made just one competitive appearance with the promoted club, who terminated his contract after he failed to keep up with the physical demands of German football.

Reports linked him with a return to Zamalek but the club did not confirm their alleged interest in the 28-year-old.

Gouna were tipped to become the league's dark horses but their results in the first half of the season were not so encouraging.

They lie 13th in the 16-team table with 15 points, two above the relegation zone but they could be excused for losing Wael Riad and Amr Samaka, two close-season signings, to long-term injuries early in the season.
