Hughes was informed that he's no longer in charge of the Citizens after their 4-3 win over Sunderland on Saturday.

Bevan believes that this decision was by far unwise, referring to its possible unpleasant consequences in the long run.

"Mark found out immediately after the game, when he was called into a meeting and informed that his contract was being terminated," he said.

"But I think the decision had probably been taken some time ago. Mark and everybody else in this country realizes you can't buy trophies in one season.

"If overseas owners feel that, we'll continue with the sackings and we'll continue with affinity lost to our clubs in England.

"If you come in as an overseas owner, you need to embrace the city and the supporters, not just the trophy cabinet."

Italian coach Roberto Mancini succeeded Hughes as City boss, and it's yet to be seen whether or not he's the right man for the job.

Bevan is adamant that managing the Premiership club is not going to be an easy task, thanks the perseverance of City's owners.

"Mancini is going to be under an intense spotlight," he added.

"The facts are City have lost two games all season. The owners have declared that is not good enough.

"If Mancini finds himself in a similar situation next year, presumably he is out as well. Managing City will become impossible."
