Two days before of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) got underway, the driver of Togo's bus was instantly killed and nine people, including two players, were terribly wounded when gunmen opened fire on the bus in the Angolan enclave of Cabinda.

The death toll rose when assistant coach Abalo Amelete and press officer Stanislas Ocloo were pronounced dead, which resulted in The Sparrow Hawks' withdrawal from CAN.

Several reports suggested that the biennial competition might be canceled due to extreme security worries, but Adli assured that the Angolan government had contained the situation.

He also stressed that the continental tournament should have been hosted elsewhere.

"Choosing Angola to host and organize the nations cup doesn't necessarily mean that the country has what it takes to do so," Adli told Modern TV.

"The security has been stepped up two days after the attack on Togo."
