Nigerian striker Stephen Worgu looks to be on his way to join Ahli on loan from Sudan's Merreikh.

Ahli team co-coordinator Sayed Abdul-Hafiz indicated that the 20-year-old leads a list of African players on the Red Devils' shortlist.

"We are in talks with several foreign players, but Worgu is the closest to join us in January," former star Abdul-Hafiz told Ahli's website.

"We need to make serious assessment before concluding any deal, especially with foreign players."

Accepted

In the same manner, Merreikh chairman Gamal Al-Wali claimed that a deal has been agreed with the Egyptian giants.

"We accepted Ahli's offer to loan Worgu until June 2011," Merreikh chairman Al-Wali was quoted as saying by Goansport newspaper.

"They made a good offer and the player immediately agreed to move on."

Worgu, 20, has been facing a hard time adapting to life in Sudan, following his move from Nigeria's Enyimba in 2008.

Before he joined Merreikh, the 2008 CAF Champions League top scorer was in talks with Ahli, but opted to join the Sudanese giants instead.

Should Ahli land the Nigerian forward this winter, the Egyptian champions will likely offload Algerian starlet Amir Sayoud.

The six-time African champions said on Tuesday that they have received an offer from an unidentified Tunisian club for 20-year-old playmaker.
