After two weeks of silence and inexplicable absence from training, Zamalek star Amr Zaki speaks to FilGoal about his recent crisis and unclear future.

The injured Egypt striker has also given his thoughts about the Pharaohs' chances of defending their African Cup of Nations title in Angola.

Problem Solved

The supporters need to know the reasons behind your sudden absence from Zamalek training.

Zaki: Only God knows why I haven’t been able to train recently. I had severe problems, most importantly the serious illness of my daughter. Unfortunately I wasn’t ready to talk to the club about it.

Are you aware that Zamalek have placed you on the transfer list?

Yes, but this week I sat with Hazem Emam (board member) and explained my situation. Emam ensured me that it was a misunderstanding and that I am still an important player for Zamalek.

Does that mean your problem with Zamalek is resolved?

Absolutely, after the meeting with Emam and a conversation with Ibrahim Hassan (team coordinator), I can assure that the case has been closed.

I hope Zamalek fans would accept my apology. I also want everyone to know that my relationship with the manager (Hossam Hassan) is fine. Hassan is my role model.

Is there any relation between your recent absence and your willingness to play in Europe?

No way, I belong to Zamalek and I swear that I will never leave unless the club is satisfied. I refuse to consider any move without Zamalek being part of the deal.

Did you receive any offers from abroad recently?

Yes, there was interest from Turkish clubs, but I insisted they must talk to Zamalek first.

Egypt in Angola

What are your views about Egypt's first game with Nigeria in the Nations Cup?

I was very happy with the 3-1 win over Nigeria. It made me believe we can win the title for the third time in a row.

In Egypt 2006 we beat Libya 3-0 and in Ghana 2008 we beat Cameroon 4-2, this time we managed to hit three past Nigeria. So once again we opened with a decent victory, which made me more optimistic.

What do you think about the next matches?

I think Egypt are already guaranteed a place in the quarter-finals after beating Nigeria, because Mozambique and Benin shouldn’t be feared.

But the knockout stage won't be easy; especially that Group D includes teams like Cameroon and Tunisia. However, I am fully confident that the Egyptian team can make it and win every game.

Do you have anything to say to your Egypt teammates?

I want to tell the players and I really wish I was there with you to help the team win another title, but now I am just a spectator and I will keep supporting you till the end.

I also want to congratulate captain Ahmed Hassan for his performance against Nigeria and I want to send special greetings for (Mohamed Nagi) Geddo, hoping he can keep up the good work.

Finally, I am sending my applauds to coach Hassan Shehata, the mastermind behind our success.
