Zamalek are due to fine striker Amr Zaki EGP 150,000 for missing training for 12 days without permission, the club said on Thursday.

"This decision has been taken in accordance with the club's regulations," Zamalek general coordinator Ibrahim Hassan told FilGoal.com.

"The board of directors will have to approve it first. They might increase it or keep it as it is."

Zaki has not turned up for training since the second of January to prompt Zamalek to place him on the transfer list.

The combative striker later apologized for his actions, citing his 'daughter's deteriorated health condition' as a reason for his unauthorized absence.

"I committed a mistake, so I should be punished. I have no problems with that," Zaki said.

"I know very well that what I did is totally wrong because I'm a professional player."

The 26-year-old, who was blighted by persistent hamstring injury, has not scored any goal since returning to Zamalek in the close season after ending a season-long loan at Wigan Athletic.

His agent said recently that several leading clubs in Turkey were interested in signing him before the closure of the January transfer window.
