The hosts took the lead three minutes after the break when a first-time shot from Mohammad Al Mahyani found the bottom corner.

Hilal appeared to close in on a third successive win in the group stage but set-piece specialist Abd-Rabou came to Ahli's rescue in the first minute of the additional time.

Ahli were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area after midfielder Cesar was upended.

Abd-Rabou, who is set to return to Ismaili at the end of the season after finishing his two-year loan spell with Ahli, stepped up to lift the ball over the wall and into the top corner of the net.

The Egyptian midfielder has also scored five goals in the UAE Football League so far this season.

Ahli lie at the bottom of Group D in the Champions League with one point from three games, six behind leaders Hilal and five adrift of second-placed Sadd of Qatar.
