The hosts played without Egyptian striker Mido, who missed the game due to a back injury, but claimed all three points to ease pressure on under-fire manager Gianfranco Zola.

Brazilian striker Ilan, who scored the goal that gave West Ham a 2-2 draw with Everton last weekend after replacing Mido, once again rescued the Hammers.

He notched home six minutes into the second half to hand West Ham their first league win since February.

The relegation worries of Hull City, who were also without another Egyptian striker in Amr Zaki, were compounded after a 4-1 loss at home to Burnley.

Zaki was not available as he returned to Cairo to continue his rehabilitation program after picking up a knee injury in training last month.

West Ham have 31 points from 34 games, four clear of the relegation zone.

Hull lie second from bottom on 27 points, four adrift of safety with five matches remaining.
