The 27-year-old highlighted his close relationship with Hassan Shehata, describing the Egypt coach as his 'God father'.
"I was called up to Egypt for the first time five years ago, and ever since Hassan Shehata has been my God father," Zaki told Dream TV.
"When I'm at Egypt's training camps, I feel more comfortable than at Zamalek.
"I was really depressed when I failed to feature for Egypt in the last African Cup of Nations."
Zaki was ruled out of the biennial competition due to a hamstring injury.

Zaki, who joined the Premiership club from Zamalek on loan till the end of the season, couldn't score a single goal for the White Knights in the first half of the season.
According to media reports, the former Wigan Athletic man fell out with Zamalek boss Hossam Hassan before moving to Hull.
However, the robust player denied the reported rift with the highly-rated coach, saying think the world of the former Egypt star.
"Hossam Hassan is my role model," Zaki added. "He's one of the best strikers in Egypt's history.
"I have been in touch with him even before he took over at Zamalek. I wanted to work with him so badly.
"He's an incredible person, and all what was said about a falling-out is untrue.
"I'm looking forward to working with him again after my loan period at Hull."
Hassan accused Zaki of being persistently undisciplined before the latter departed in the winter.
