English referee Howard Webb has been chosen to officiate the UEFA Champions League final between Inter Milan and Bayern Munich.

UEFA announced that the 38-year-old Webb will be assisted by linesmen Michael Mullarkey and Darren Cann for the Madrid epic on Saturday.

Webb, who will be present at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, was in charge of Egypt's Confederations Cup game against Brazil last year.

It is the first time in five years that an Englishman has become eligible for officiating the game as Premiership clubs featured in the final ever since 2005.
