The Carling Black Label, one of South Africa's most popular beers, is widely known as Zamalek in the country that is hosting the ongoing World Cup.
The name derives from a dance song commemorating an African Champions League clash between Cairo giants Zamalek and South African side Kaiser Chiefs in 1993.
"We want to preserve our rights. Our name can not be used without our permission," Zamalek marketing director Ashraf Sobhi told FilGoal.com late on Saturday.
"We have already started some legal proceedings but I don't think we can sue the company which is responsible for that because it is not in Egypt."
The beer, however, is not officially known as Zamalek but South African people prefer to name it after one of the most successful clubs in the Dark Continent.
South Africa is the first African country to host the World Cup - the football's most prestigious tournament.
