Mohamed Shawky has terminated his contract with Turkish side Kayserispor by mutual consent, the Egyptian midfielder's agent said on Saturday.

The 28-year-old's tenure in Turkish football lasted for just six months after he joined Kayserispor from English side Middlesbrough in January.

"Kayserispor failed to fulfill their financial obligations towards my client. They are overdue in paying his money," Nader Shawki told FilGoal.com.

"Shawky reached an agreement with the club to give up his dues and annul his deal. He is now free to join any other club."

The defensive midfielder has been repeatedly linked with a move back to Ahli, the club he made his name with.

Shawky joined Middlesbrough in the summer of 2007 to reap the rewards of his impressive displays with Ahli.

However, he could not establish himself at the Riverside and his lack of playing time cost him a place in Egypt's 2010 triumphant African Cup of Nations squad.

He endured another disappointing spell at Kayserispor but is now free to rejoin Ahli and resurrect his career in Egypt.

"Shawky wants to continue playing in Europe but if he does not receive any suitable offer he will return to the Egyptian league and play for Ahli," the agent added.

Ahli's current squad boasts several holding midfielders but the Egyptian champions are likely to make a move for Shawky.
