The South African football association has announced that Pitso Mosimane is the team's new coach, following the departure of Carlos Alberto Parreira.

Mosimane, who was Parreira's assistant in the 2010 World Cup, was expected to take up the job as he was the number one candidate after Bafana's elimination.

The hosts crashed out from the first round after grabbing four points in Group A.

South Africa will compete in Group 7 of the 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, along with Egypt, Sierra Leone and Niger.

The 1996 African champions play their first game against Niger in September.
