The 27-year-old made his return to the Dutch outfit shortly after leaving Middlesbrough by mutual consent.

It is understood that Mido rejoined Ajax on pay-as-you-play deal, and apparently that is the main reason why the Amsterdam side brought him back.

"We needed an extra striker and we have limited resources which have to be considered," said Ajax coach Martin Jol after the deal went through.

Last week, Ajax commercial director Henry van der Aat had stated: "If he comes, it will cost us nothing. And people ask why is he coming?!"
