AC Milan have signed striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Barcelona on a season-long loan with an option to buy him for 24 million euros, the Italian club announced on Saturday.

"Ibrahimovic will undergo a medical on Monday and sign a four-year contract," Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani said.

Swedish striker Ibrahimovic moved to Spanish giants Barcelona last summer from Inter Milan in a swap deal that saw Samuel Eto'o go in the opposite direction.

He scored 21 goals in all competitions as Barcelona won the Primera Liga title but was still criticized for failing to live up to his potential.

Dutch football great Johan Cruyff said few months ago that the towering frontman 'had to be effective'.

His arrival will boost a Milan side who failed to make big-name signings during the close season.

The Rossoneri already boast several strikers in Alexandre Pato, Marco Borriello, Filippo Inzaghi and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
