Ghana star Asamoah Gyan is to play alongside Egypt wing-back Ahmed Elmohamady as he has completed his move to Sunderland for a record-breaking fee of £13million.

Sunderland announced on their official website that the skillful striker was landed at the Stadium of Light few hours before the transfer deadline on Tuesday.

The fee of the deal set a new record for the Black Cats as it is the highest in the club’s history.

Darren Bent, Who moved to Steve Bruce's side from Tottenham last year, used to be Sunderland's all-time most expensive player as the Premiership minnows paid £10million for his services.

Gyan dazzled in the 2010 World Cup with Ghana, scoring three goals in the Black Stars' impressive campaign.

However, his South Africa trip came to an abrupt end when he missed a 120th minute penalty against Uruguay in the quarter-final.

Sunderland manager Bruce said last week that signing a marksman is a priority for his side, following the sale of Kenwyne Jones to Stoke.

Gyan, 24, is Sunderland's eighth recruit this summer, which included a loan swoop for Elmohamady from ENPPI.
