The Portuguese international sustained an ankle injury during Real's goalless draw with Mallorca in their opening game of the Primera Liga.

He was due to be sidelined for three weeks but could make his return earlier than expected when Real host Dutch giants Ajax at Santiago Bernabeu on September 15.

"I feel better and we'll see how it (the injury) develops," he told reporters on Wednesday.

"I'm still not perfect but almost at one hundred percent. I'll return as soon as possible, maybe in two days I can rejoin the squad."

Egyptian striker Mido is also battling to make Ajax's squad for the anticipated game in their Champions League Group G opener.

The 27-year-old joined Ajax, the club were he made his name in the early 2000s, on a season-long loan from English second-division side Middlesbrough.
