The Egyptian-born forward went AWOL after playing a friendly game with Qatar last month, his agent saying that he wants an improved contract with the Cairo club.

He recently played down the significance of his absence but still incurred the wrath of Zamalek, whom he joined last January after terminating his deal with their arch-rivals Ahli.

He sat down with Zamalek's football director Ibrahim Hassan upon his arrival in Cairo on Wednesday.

Hassan, who said previously that Yasser would be heavily sanctioned, is yet to disclose the details of his meeting with the 26-year-old.

However, Zamalek board member Ibrahim Youssef said later on Wednesday that the player was tempted by an approach from Qatari side Al-Rayyan.

"We don't have problems with that but Al-Rayyan should table an offer if they want to sign him," he said.

Yasser has been a regular member of Zamalek's starting line-up since joining in the second half of last season.

Coach Hossam Hassan usually deploys him as a left-sided midfielder in the 4-4-2 formation he uses.

Wingers Shikabala and Hazem Emam were also involved in troubles with the Zamalek board for missing training without permission earlier this season.

The White Knights are consistently criticized for being 'too tolerant' of misbehaving players.
