Abdelhak Benchikha has been named the new manager of Algeria in place of Rabah Saadane, who recently resigned.

Benchikha, a former manager of the Algerian U-17 team, was initially named caretaker coach before clinching the job on a permanent basis.

The 47-year-old is now handed the task of leading the Desert Foxes through the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Algeria, who succumbed to a disappointing home draw with Tanzania in their group opener, will visit Central Africa Republic next month in Benchikha first test.
