Egyptian-owned club Lierse have relieved manager Aime Anthuenis of his duties following a sixth defeat in seven Belgian league matches.

Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Westerlo meant that the newly-promoted side have only managed a single point from their opening seven games, marking the end of Anthuenis' reign.

"This is not a nice decision. But with one point from a possible 21, we cannot be satisfied," CEO Neel De Ceulaer told the club's official site.

"A team with so much talent in their ranks must be higher in the table."

Anthuenis was the man who helped Lierse seal promotion last season by winning the second division, with the help of Egyptians Mohamed Al-Gabbas and Mohamed Abdul-Wahed.

Former Belgium internationals Eric van Meir and Chris Janssens will be in charge of the team until further notice.
