Not only did Samir Nasri win the Carling Cup tie for Arsenal over Tottenham, but the French midfielder also managed to overcome a 'bad superstition'.

Following a 1-1 full-time draw, the Gunners overwhelmed their hosts with three extra-time goals to win the tie, courtesy of two penalties from Nasri.

Despite his reluctance to take the kick, the skilful winger converted the winning goal after being brought down by Spurs captain Sebastian Bassong.

"He had a superstition to think that when a penalty is made on you not to take it," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said.

"But I tried to prove to him that that’s solely based on fear. He realizes now that it was a bad superstition."

Meanwhile, Spurs manager Harry Redknapp slammed Nasri for the first penalty, claiming the Arsenal captain had dived.

"He fell over. Really I think he's dived for the first penalty. The second penalty was a blatant one. He's pulled him," said Redknapp.
