Police Union secured provisional top spot in the Egyptian Premier League upon registering a hard-fought 1-0 win at ENPPI on Sunday.

Salah Ashour hit the winner as early the second minute with a precise header, before the visitors defended tightly to maintain their slender lead till the full-time whistle.

Police are now on 12 points while ENPPI lie third with 10 in the league table.

ENPPI carved out a number of clear-cut scoring chances, especially in the second period, but failed to translate their dominance into goals.

ENPPI assistant coach Mahmoud Saleh slammed his players after the game, saying they will all be punished for their poor form.

"The players will not get paid till we get back to winning ways," he said.

The Petroleum side scored three victories, slumped to as many losses and drew once in their first seven league matches.
