The youngster's comments were published in Italian paper Gazzetta Della Sport on Thursday.

"Rooney is a really great person, he always gives me advice, but he's a bit working class and vulgar," Macheda was quoted as saying.

Macheda is away on international duty with Italy's U-21 side while Rooney is preparing to feature in England's EURO 2012 qualifier against Montenegro on Tuesday.

Rooney was in sparkling form last season, scoring 34 goals in all competitions although United could only win the League Cup.

He suffered a dip in form this season though amid allegations over his private life.
