Egyptian coach Anwar Salama has abruptly left Libyan side Ittihad after only two months at the helm, the club said on Saturday.

Salama took over at Ittihad after resigning from his post as Masri coach but his tenure in the North African country did not last for long.

"We were surprised by his sudden departure," Ittihad board member Abdul-Magid Saleh told Libyapress.net.

"He did not notify us beforehand; he just left us a letter saying that he will not be able to continue his job."

Salama opted to depart Ittihad although they produced fine results under his guidance.

They lie second in Group A of the African Confederation Cup on nine points with one game remaining.

If Ittihad avoid a defeat against Malian side Djoliba in their last group-stage game, they will book a semi-final berth.

Ittihad also won their opening Libyan league game in convincing fashion, beating Darnes 3-0.

"We were annoyed by his departure because we were fully backing him," Saleh added.

Reports suggest that Salama will be appointed as the coach of Egyptian Premier League side Gouna.

Gouna's managerial seat is vacant following the resignation of Ismail Youssef earlier this month.
