Ahli striker Mohamed Talaat has been handed an EGP 50,000 fine and ordered to train with the youth team due to lack of commitment, the club said on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old missed Ahli's 1-0 defeat at Tunisia's Esperance in the second leg of the African Champions League semi final due to a hamstring injury.

"Talaat declined to undergo his rehabilitation program when the team were in Tunisia," Ahli football director Hadi Khashaba said on the club’s official website.

"He also failed to attend any training sessions during that period.

"He will accordingly train with the youth team under the supervision of coach Fathi Mabrouk in the coming period."

Talaat has struggled to establish himself at Ahli since being promoted to the first team in the early stages of last season.

Ahli coach Hossam Al-Badri gave him several opportunities to prove his worth this term but he could not impress.

Talaat still had a role to play with the Red Devils though due to lack of options upfront following the summer departure of Emad Meteb.

He scored two goals in Ahli's disappointing Champions League campaign but failed to find the net in the Egyptian Premier League.

Al-Badri relied on natural deep-lying forward Geddo as a lone striker against Esperance, with Talaat, Mohamed Fadl and Liberian Francis Doe struggling with injuries.

The trio are also unlikely to be available when Ahli, who are eyeing a seventh consecutive league title, resume domestic action against Petrojet next week.

Al-Badri will not be boosted until the January transfer window opens as Meteb, who made a surprise return to the Cairo giants after terminating his deal with Belgium's Standard Liege, will be eligible to play by then.
