The Dutchman's departure came after Galatasaray made a poor start to their season.

They are ninth in the Turkish league after eight games, eight points behind leaders Bursaspor.

The club also failed to reach the group stage of the European Champions League or Europa League.

"As a result of mutual talks with technical director Frank Rijkaard… we have decided to part ways as of October 20," Galatasaray said in a statement on their official website.

Rijkaard took charge of Galatasaray in 2009 after leaving Spanish giants Barcelona the previous year.

Reports suggest that Rijkaard, who led Barcelona to one Champions League and two Spanish league titles, might replace Liverpool coach Roy Hodgson.
