Mercurial midfielder Barakat was dismissed on the half-hour mark in Ahli's 1-0 loss at Esperance, which saw the Red Devils wave goodbye to the Champions League, for thumping Korbi in the face in a scuffle.

The row erupted when Sherif Abdul-Fadil received a yellow card for a harsh challenge, which prompted the visitors to round Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey in anger.

While players from both sides were pushing each other, Barakat was caught by TV cameras hitting Korbi, who seemingly pretended to be suffering acute pains.

CAF sent Ahli a letter on Monday to inform them that the 33-year-old has been banned for misconduct.

Ahli booked a place in the next Champions League, CAF's primary competition, upon claiming the Egyptian Premier League title in the 2009-2010 season.
