Pinto, who was deputizing for the ill Victor Valdes, deceived FC Copenhagen's Cesar Santin to deny him an opportunity to score during Barca's 2-0 win at the Nou Camp.

The Brazilian striker broke clear of defense after latching onto a through pass but stopped all of a sudden, although neither the referee nor the linesman signaled for offside.

Pinto whistled to fool Santin into thinking he was offside in the 26th minute of the game.

"Barca are now planning to appeal to the Control and Disciplinary Committee," the club said in a statement on their official website.

The Catalans should have regular keeper Valdes available for their next Champions League outing.

They lie on top of Group D with seven points, one ahead of second-placed Copenhagen with three matches to go.
