Ahli and Zamalek are reportedly in the hunt to sign MCDR's rising star Ayman Hefni but he said he would prefer to move to the white side of Cairo if he were to leave the promoted club.

The 24-year-old playmaker burst onto the scene with some impressive displays with MCDR, who made a superb start to their maiden Egyptian Premier League campaign.

His brilliant bicycle kick earned MCDR a 1-1 draw with Ismaili and he also scored a fine goal against fellow heavyweights Zamalek although his side eventually lost 4-3 in a thrilling game last month.

"Some of Ahli and Zamalek officials spoke with me (over a possible move) but I told them to open talks with MCDR's board of directors first," Hefni said in an interview with Egyptian daily Al-Ahram.

"But I'm a Zamalek fan and all my family, expect two persons, also support Zamalek.

"I love (Zamalek coach) Hossam Hassan and I believe that the team's style suits me. But the negotiations must be successfully concluded before we can talk about any deals."

Hefni was praised for his neat footwork and ability to break down defensive fences with some deft passes.

He is MCDR's joint top scorer with four goals as Tarek Yehia's side lie fifth in the league table with 15 points, just one behind fourth-placed Police Union who have a game in hand.

Hefni's form prompted Egypt coach Hassan Shehata to name him in the squad that played against Australia in a friendly game last Wednesday.

Although he sat on the bench throughout the game, Hefni was still delighted to earn an Egypt call-up.

"My inclusion in Egypt's squad encourages me to do my best and maintain my fine displays to prove that I deserve a place in the national team," he added.

"It's an honor for me to play with Egypt."
