Former Zambia coach Herve Renard revealed that he has been approached by Ahli, but insists that negotiations are yet to reach an advanced stage.

Ahli, temporarily managed by Abdul-Aziz Abdul-Shafi ‘Zizo’, are believed to be in search of an overseas coach to take over from the Egyptian.

“An official called me and I hope negotiations will be successful so I can get the opportunity of managing a big team like Ahli,” Renard told Nile Sport TV.

“No contract has been offered to me yet though.

“I know I’m not the only manager on Ahli’s shortlist and I understand the club’s right to take its time.”

Renard left Zambia in April before taking over from ex-Ahli boss Manuel Jose as Angola manager.

But the Frenchman stepped down from the Palancas Negras post last month.

It has been reported that former Germany international Thomas Doll is also one of the candidates to take the Ahli hot seat permanently.
