The 24-year-old, who was due to run out of contract by the end of the current season, agreed terms of the new deal in a meeting with football director Sayed Abdul-Hafiz.

The tenacious midfielder has been a key member of the Ahli selection since 2004, winning a host of trophies under the management of Portuguese coach Manuel Jose.

With Ashour's absence due to an ankle injury, Ahli have been struggling during the past few weeks in the league.

Despite his status as a pillar of the Ahli squad, Ashour has yet to make his first appearance for the Egypt national team.
