The towering player was finally given a spot in Ajax's starting line-up after Uruguayan hitman Luis Suarez was handed an Eredivisie seven-match ban for biting the shoulder of PSV midfielder Otman Bakkal.

But Suarez is eligible to play in continental matches. He was named in Ajax's squad for their match at Milan while Mido was left out.

Mido has scored twice in the league and once in the Dutch Cup since his summer arrival at Amsterdam Arena from Middlesbrough.

Ajax announced on their official site that the 27-year-old was excluded from the squad due to 'personal reasons'.
