Ajax's new coach Franck de Boer named Egyptian striker Mido for Sunday's Eredivisie match at Vitesse Arnhem.

The towering player missed the Dutch side's 2-0 loss at AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday for 'personal reasons'.

Mido, who scored three times for Ajax in his last three appearances in all competitions, has been confined to the bench so far this season, with Martin Jol usually relying on Mounir El Hamdaoui and Luis Suarez upfront.

But after Dutchman Jol resigned as head coach and De Boer succeeded him at Ajax's helm, Mido was given a chance of playing regular first-team football for the remainder of the season.

After taking over at Amsterdam Arena on Tuesday, De Boer said he will be employing a 4-3-3 formation. The 27-year-old is widely expected to secure the extra spot in the three-pronged attack.

Mido, who rejoined Ajax in the summer on loan from Middlesbrough, used to play as a winger during his first spell at the capital club 10 years ago.
