The African champions produced a below-par display to let down their enthusiastic supporters at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha.

The defeat left lingering worries for Egypt, who made a poor start to their Group G campaign in the 2012 African Cup of Nations, collecting just one point out of possible six after a draw at home to Sierra Leone and a stunning defeat at tiny Niger.

"It's a friendly game at the end, it should not affect our morale but we have to learn from our mistakes," Gharib, who usually speaks on behalf of head coach Hassan Shehata, told the post-match news conference.

"Some players produce inconsistent displays. They do well for their clubs and play badly with the national team.

"We will only call up the consistent players to Egypt's squad during the coming period."

The Pharaohs are preparing for a crucial tie at South Africa, who top Group G with four points, in March 2011.
