But they were outclassed by European champions Inter, who claimed their third world title after winning the former Intercontinental Cup in 1964 and 1965.

Striker Goran Pandev put them in front after 13 minutes when he neatly controlled a defense-splitting volleyed pass from Samuel Eto'o before firing home with aplomb.

Cameroonian marksman Eto'o turned from provider to scorer four minutes later to double the Italian champions' advantage.

He turned and hit a superb first-timer with his right foot from the edge of the area.

Substitute Jonathan Biabiany completed the rout with five minutes remaining after beating the offside trap on a long pass.

The win will ease pressure on Inter coach Rafael Benitez, whose side made a poor start to the defense of their Serie A title.

They are 13 points behind city rivals AC Milan in the league title race.
