The Cairo derby produced little excitement as both sides were unable to create any goalscoring opportunities throughout the game.
Egyptian Premier League leaders Zamalek were deemed favorites to claim all three points, given the recent poor form of Ahli who won just once in four games before meeting the White Knights.
But Zamalek were incapable of ending their derby jinx, having last beaten Ahli in 2007.
"Our stars regained their top form, this is the advantage we gained from tonight's match," Zizo said in a television interview after the match.
"The people saw the game today and can assess our display and whether we deserved better than a draw or not.
"We are on the right track. The team will only get better with some additions during the coming period."
Club icon Zizo took over at Ahli in November on a temporary basis following the resignation of Hossam Al-Badri.
The Red Devils said earlier this month they would announce their new coach after the Cairo derby. Portuguese Manuel Jose is favorite to become the team's boss for a third stint.
"We still know nothing about that matter," Ahli right-back Ahmed Fathi commented.
"But I wish Zizo best of luck regardless of whether he will remain at the helm or not."
