Egypt forward Mohamed Zidan revealed how the long-term injury he suffered last year helped him improve his attitude.

Zidan damaged the anterior cruciate ligament in April 2010 and has yet to play a single Bundesliga game for Borussia Dortmund ever since.

Despite the major blow, the 28-year-old saw some positive outcomes from the injury.

“I learned from his difficult injury. An torn ACL changes you and your attitude. I now have more respect for my body,” Zidan told German Derwesten.

“I learned patience. It is about how to remain strong even in the moments of weakness.

“But I have been training extensively with the physio. I only need match practice now to become 100% ready.”

Despite Zidan’s absence Dortmund have been performing above expectations in the Bundesliga so far as they lead the table with a 10-point gap over second-placed Mainz.
