Ahli have resumed training on Sunday, starting with a moment of silence in tribute to the hundreds who lost their lives in Egypt’s January revolution.

More than 300 Egyptians were killed during clashes with the state security police of former president Hosni Mubarak, who eventually stepped down after 30 years in charge.

The tribute gesture from the league champions was suggested by coach Manuel Jose, who returned from Portugal at the weekend following a two-week emergency break.

Jose resumes his mission of helping Ahli defend their Egyptian Premier League title in the second half of the season, while a date has yet to be set for the competition’s restart.

Meanwhile, Egypt captain Ahmed Hassan was able to train normally with the team for the first time since damaging the cruciate ligament back in September 2010.
