The subject of footballers’ high wages has been raised after the January 25 Revolution in Egypt, with the FA considering a new barometer in line with the people’s needs.

Mido nearly became the highest earner in the country after making his comeback to Zamalek this winter, only for the salary-cap speculation to start.

“The salary cap is not a good option. It does not exist in Europe or even in Africa,” the 27-year-old told FilGoal.com.

“Every player has ambitions to secure his future by earning more. If this rule was applied in Egypt, star players will be forced to look for better deals with foreign clubs.

“If this happened, the Egyptian league will become weaker. The competition is currently ranked among the strongest regionally and continentally.

“It is funny to see people just talking about footballers’ money, while others in the media and entertainment fields earn imaginary sums.

“There is a logical solution to the problem though, like adding a clause to every contract over EGP 1million that obliges the player to donate 10% to the poor.”

According to Egyptian reports, Mido’s new three-and-a-half-year contract with Zamalek is worth EGP 19million.
