Ahli will be without the injured Mohamed Abou-Treika when they host Zambian champions ZESCO United in the CAF Champions League next week.
The midfield talisman has been struggling with a calf problem that kept him out of this week’s win over Gouna, and a scan on Thursday ensured his absence from Sunday’s game.
Ahli doctor Walid Abdul-Baqi has confirmed that the 32-year-old will be sidelined for up to two weeks.
Reds boss Manuel Jose could be facing a dilemma in the playmaker role, given that Treika’s automatic replacement Amir Sayoud is not registered for the continental competition.
While veteran Ahmed Hassan is also ineligible for the round of 16 game, Jose could turn to Mohamed Barakat, who also missed the Gouna game due to fatigue.
Ahli need a win at Cairo Stadium on Sunday to go through to the group stage, following their goalless first-leg draw in Ndola.
