The league leaders suffered their first league defeat of the year in Hurghada, with Hassan’s assistant Tarek Soliman revealing the management’s intention to step down after the unexpected stumble.

“As I said before, I will never leave Zamalek unless the board fires me,” Hassan told FilGoal.com after a meeting with the board late on Wednesday.

“I was just so angry with the loss and the poor performance of some players.”

Eight new players

Meanwhile, coach Soliman indicated that the management made a request to the board over summer signings during Wednesday’s meeting.

“We informed the board that we need eight new players,” Hassan’s assistant said.

“The board also promised us that they will solve Shikabala’s contract problem soon.”

The Zamalek board is still struggling to reach an agreement with star man Shikabala over a new deal, amid serious interest from Belgian champions Anderlecht.

Shikabala runs out of contract by the start of 2012.

Right before meeting with the first team management, Zamalek board member Maher Abdul-Aziz slammed the players, claiming they have no excuse for the recent drop.

“The recent results have been unacceptable. The players have no excuse as we are providing them with everything they need in order to become champions,” he said.

“If we failed to win the league this season, these players would better quit.”

A number of Zamalek players, led by captain Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed, filed a complaint against their own club over unpaid wages last month.

The problem was eventually contained by the management, but the board has yet to secure the future of star duo Shikabala and Mahmoud Fathallah.
