Former Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour has decided to relinquish his appeal against the club’s previous board because he will run for Egypt presidency.

Mansour initially made a successful appeal against the legitimacy of Zamalek’s elections last year, resulting in the sacking of former chairman and presidency rival Mamdouh Abbas back in September.

However, Abbas made an fresh appeal claiming he has evidence that validates his victory as the court of law set the 28th of May to give its final verdict.

“Now I am a presidential candidate and therefore I am not supposed to be involved in any external conflict,” Mansour told Modern Horreya TV.

“For me, the case is over but I cannot force other members of the club to withdraw their bid against Abbas.”

Mansour, who served nine months in prison in 2007 for insulting a judge, was briefly detained last month following allegations linking him with the infamous Camel Battle in February 2.
