Galal Ibrahim is set to step down as the chairman of Zamalek due to the unbearable pressure on the board.

“I am fed up because of the continuous pressure on the board and thus I decided to resign,” Ibrahim, who has been appointed temporarily until the next elections in mid-2012, told FilGoal.com.

Ibrahim succeeded Mamdouh Abbas in September 2010 after the latter was accused of using illegal methods to win the 2009 presidential elections against Mortada Mansour.

His decision comes in the wake of a protest made by a number of club icons led by former board member Ahmed Refaat, calling for the resignation of the current board.

Zamalek have been encountering managerial problems lately which forced new first-team coach Hassan Shehata to warn the board that he could pull out of the job if his demands were not met in the near future.

Shehata’s comment was soon followed by the departure of prominent and long-serving board member Abdullah George this week.
