Merreikh coach Hossam Al-Badri is not interested in working as an assistant coach for the Egypt national team.

The former Ahli manager was shortlisted as one of four candidates, including Tarek Al-Ashri, Alaa Maihoub and Diaa Al-Sayed, to assist the potential head coach of the Pharaohs.

“I do not accept to work as an assistant manager for Egypt,” Al-Badri was quoted by Sudanese media.

“I am staying with Merreikh and I have no intention of leaving in the near future.”

Al-Badri’s Merreikh are currently in charge of the Sudanese league table, five points ahead of defending champions and arch-rivals Hilal.

The 51-year-old used to be the assistant of Manuel Jose for several years at Ahli, before being promoted to lead the first team two seasons ago.

He guided Ahli to the Egyptian Premier League title in 2009-2010, but left the post last November following a disappointing defeat at Ismaili.
